List of Bills that are to come up this Parliament session

Month-long winter session of Parliament will start on November 24 and conclude on December 23. It will have 22 sittings in which four days have been earmarked for Private Members’ business. A total of 67 bills ? 59 in the Rajya Sabha and eight in the Lok Sabha ? are pending. Of these, 40 were introduced in the 15th Lok Sabha, while 18 are pending from earlier Lok Sabhas. The Modi government has introduced nine bills in the budget session of the 16th Lok Sabha. Here’s a list of 10 important bills that will come up in this session.

THE PRIVATE DETECTIVE AGENCIES(REGULATION) BILL, 2007

Provides for the regulation and licensing of private detective agencies operating in India. (Home Ministry/Earlier Session).

THE TELECOM REGULATORY AUTHORITY OF INDIA (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2008

Amends the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997. Relaxes certain conditions on eligibility for members of Trai. (Telecom Ministry/Earlier Session).

THE INSURANCE LAWS (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2008

Raises the limit to 49% and allows entry of foreign reinsurers (companies that insure insurance companies). Also, provides for permanent registration of insurance companies and permits the holder of a life insurance policy to name the benefi ciary. (Finance Ministry/Earlier Session.

THE REAL ESTATE (REGULATION AND DEVELOPMENT) BILL, 2013

Establishes the Real Estate Regulatory Authority to regulate the sector and establishes the Appellate Tribunal to hear appeals from the decisions, directions or orders of the Authority. (Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ministry/15th LS.

THE RIGHT OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES BILL, 2014

Creates provisions to ensure the rights of differently-abled persons. (Social Justice & Empowerment Ministry/15th LS).

THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR HUMAN RESOURCES FOR HEALTH BILL, 2011

Establishes a mechanism to determine and regulate the standard of health education in the country. It shall repeal the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947; the Pharmacy Act, 1948; the Dentists Act, 1948; and the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, on such date as decided by the central government. THE PREVENTION OF CORRUPTION (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2013

Makes the act of bribing a public servant a criminal offence & creates provisions to cover all aspects of bribery, including defi nitions of various elements of bribery. (Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Ministry/15th LS.)

THE NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION AUTHORITY OF INDIA BILL, 2010

Provides for the establishment of the National Identifi cation Authority of India for the purpose of issuing unique identifi cation numbers to individuals residing in India. (Planning/15th LS.

THE ANTI-HIJACKING (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2010

Enhances penalty for hijacking to death or life imprisonment & fi ne. (Civil Aviation Ministry/15th LS).
